I have a Toshiba Tecra A8-S8514. I currently have 2.5GB RAM installed. I have another 2GB module sitting here. I want to upgrade to 4GB RAM, but XP 32-bit doesn't support it. It shows up as 3.25GB, and I get crashes with it installed. I want to upgrade to XP Pro x64, but I don't know if my proc is compatible.

The sticker on the outside of the laptop says Centrino Duo. The readout that Device Manager gives me is that is is a Core 2 T7200 2.00GHz. If that is the case, isn't the Core 2 Duo T7200 a merom proc? Will I be able to install x64 on this without any proc upgrades? Thanks!

    Welcome to NBR, razor2006. :)

The T7200 is a 64-bit processor. You should have no problems installing a 64-bit OS on the notebook.

NEVER. I am a Network Admin, and from my experiences with Vista, it is EVIL! Haha. I was enrolled in the MS Action Pack Subscription at my last job, and I loaded up Vista as soon as I got my copy of Vista Business, and it lasted about one week. Needless to say, I refuse to run that waste of money and programming until I can no longer make XP function.

Now, another question regarding this. Do you think I'll have trouble getting drivers to work? Toshiba doesn't list XP x64 drivers on their site for my laptop. I plan to upgrade to x64 from XP Pro, and don't want to reload if I don't have to.

If Toshiba doesn't list the drivers, then you will be in for a tough time getting the drivers..!! You would have to go to the manufacturer's site and look for the drivers for the component you have installed in you notebook....!!
You could try using something like VersionTracker or Driver Detective to find the drivers....!! Or goto Version Tracker's site and search for the drivers there....!! I just got some guys their Acer modem's 64-bit drivers from there as they were not listed on Acer's site..!!

Might be okay. Found drivers for the Video, LAN, and WLAN all on Intel's site, and found the Audio codecs on Realtek's site. Debating running home over lunch to get my x64 install disc and doing this this afternoon :)

Just make sure you have all the drivers required. You don't want to find half way through installing drivers, there are some missing.

As long as I can get video, sound, LAN, and WLAN working, that's all I care about. I'm not worried about the fingerprint reader, or any of the Fn key switchers and stuff, I don't use them anyway.

Well, I ended up wiping and doing a clean install. But good news is, aside from niffty little Toshiba hotkey apps, and my fingerprint reader, x64 works fine! Only had a small handful of apps that didn't work (ScanSoft PDF Pro, Cisco VPN Client), but for the most part, everything went great!

Runs a lot more efficiently, I can tell already.
