Hey all.
I have two motherboards for my Toshiba L300 here and not sure which I should choose.
#1 has an Intel T9300 2.5GHz and GMA 4500m graphics.
#2 has an AMD RM70 2GHz and Radeon HD3100 graphics.
From what I understand, the AMD board will be a lot faster graphics-wise, but the Intel config will be faster CPU-wise?
Cheers

tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
I would choose #1 - it is almost twice as powerful as the AMD powered platform.
Both are weak though vs. current systems...
Why not spring for a newer/more current platform/system instead?
Yeah; the video performance doesn't bother me - as long as I get to see the desktop... However, the cpu performance of the AMD would drive me nutty just surfing the web.

Either are fine for me, with an SSD in I can be from power off to on google chrome in about 15 seconds, it's pretty insane. Only irritating thing is that Netflix streaming at 720p or above is really choppy.
There is a GMA X4500MHD motherboard for this laptop but it's extremely hard to get hold of.

How much do either motherboard cost? It might be the case that it's simply more cost efficient to buy a new basic laptop rather than to replace a motherboard in a basic laptop like the L300. That's what tiller was trying to get at overall. And besides, you can still carry the SDD to a new system and enjoy the performance boost, but on much more modern and power efficient hardware (not to mention a much faster CPU and integrated GPU).

I have both in my hands right now, one is being given to a family friend.
The one L300 was bought for £25 as non-POSTing, replaced some tantalums on the motherboard and it now works fine.
The other L300 was bought for £20 with the same problem and needed a replacement mosfet.
They are both very much perfect for my web browsing uses and I have no desire to replace them. Just that I have to decide hehe.

Neither of those GPUs support decoding HD content which is why you get problems with Netflix above 720p. The T9300 is almost twice as fast as the Turion so it might help in that situation. Also, the T9300 is a 45nm chip while the Turion is 65nm so the Intel chip should run cooler and give you better battery life.
However, the HD3100 is better for games. I've seen videos of people playing Crysis with that GPU while the x4500 won't even load the game.
Both have their pros and cons depending on your needs.
