Pretty simple really! Does anyone have any opinion on the differences between these two CPUs? I'm predominantly interested in power draw as well as (obviously..haha) performance - is the T6500 worth the extra cost?

I'm in the market to buy a laptop for my mum and would like to futureproof it a little - RAM, HDD (maybe SSD in a couple of years!) are easily upgradable - I'd rather spend a little extra now than have a computer that stutters under usual tasks like browsing/streaming video etc etc.

    Thanks :)

    £80 - so I guess maybe $120 if that helps :)

T4200 will be fine for your mother. It won't stutter because of that CPU.

£80 is way too much for the T6500.

    Let me guess... Dell :)

Haha! How did you guess! Yes it did feel like a bit of a jump from what i've read on cpubenchmarks. Thanks for your thoughts. :)

I had to order a couple of Dells recently so I am aware of their pricing strategy.

Basically all extra options are over priced. The way Dell prices can be really competitive (here in the Netherlands, probably the same in UK) is if you take a special offer on a higher configuration (P8600, 500GB etc) and then use all the discounts: EPP, coupons etc. The higher the price, the higher the discount.

Interesting, I didn't realise they took that approach, I suppose in that sense it's win-win for them. I feel a bit cheeky asking, and apologies that this is off topic for this forum, but are you aware of any current promotion codes?

In case it's useful to you - OGC in the Dell forum recently posted this.

    Thanks again.

I only know for the Netherlands not for UK. Try searching Google or asking in the Dell Studio 15 thread.
