I'm in the process of replacing the hard drive and reinstalling Windows 7 on my sister's Dell Inspiron 1545. I decided to replace her 2.0GHz C2D T6400 with a 2.4GHz C2D P8600 from my old Dell Latitude while I was at it.

It works fine with the new processor, but under System/Device Manager it still shows the old T6400. How do I get it to recognize the P8600?

    Thanks.

Was this a clean install? Or did you use a Restore DVD? If the later; it may only have the drivers for the old cpu.

If a clean install, did you use a Win7 SP1 DVD? It may have the drivers built in.

You can try to install the latest chipset driver for your platform - this should install all the proper drivers for the chipset and the cpu.

    Good luck.

Try going to device manager and uninstall the old processor cores under "Processors".
