    Hi All,

My first post in the forum.

I have got Lenovo Y510P having 8GB RAM. I am planning to upgrade it to 16GB.

Would appreciate suggestions on the type of RAM that are compatible with my laptop.

    Thanks
    Hali

    Hi tilleroftheearth

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Unfortunately, my laptop have 2x4GB RAM. :(

So had to get 2X8 GB for 16GB upgrade.

therefore wanted to know what type of RAM I should get so as to make sure compatibility with the Motherboard.

I heard that RAM does have some define voltage which should be support by the motherboard.

    Let me know your thoughts.

I will look into the links provided.

    Thanks
    Hali

Hah! 2x 8GB Sodimms are even better (you won't run into any weird compatibility issues with your existing Ram sticks). Once you fully test (at least overnight) your new RAM - sell the original's to get some of your money for the 2x 8GB pair back.

Yeah, good catch on the voltage:

    See:

The subset of Sodimss you should be looking at (1.35V or 1.35-1.5V) in the original list above is:

    See:
Memory - Desktop & Notebook Memory at Memory Express

    This should work for you.

    Good luck.

Make sure you get 1.35V DDR3L because of Haswell. Standard 1.5V DDR3 won't work in this machine.

    PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz

This is what you will need according to the manufacturer.
