    Hi

I bought a laptop off Ebay. It's a Mitac MiNote 8317V. The HD had been removed and the caddy and connector.

I have no idea where to get a connector for an IDE 2.5 inch hard disk to the block in the picture below.

It is minute. Only 1 inch from pin 1 to pin 25. If you know what sort of connector it is and/or where I can get a connector, please tell me.

    Jimmy

PS. I have contacted the Mitac support people but they never responded to my Emails.

Thanks for the link DR650SE. I went to the site but can't find anything that looks like a candidate. I sent them an Email asking if they have any connectors that will fit the weird block.

    :)

on ide drives there is usually a harness installed by the manufacturer of the laptop... see if you can take the casing out to get to the HD and that connector maybe not the real connector but some sort of adapter or harness for a specific hardware?

if you post some pictures of top and bottom of the drive maybe some more can be deduced...

you can take the bus cable or IDE connector.
these are used for connecting the hard drive.
you can take these connectors from the computer shop.

porksoda - No the picture is of the connector in the laptop - not the HD. It's fixed and not an intermediate to another connector.

    Thanks for the advice anyway.

randdy - I live in Britain and people in computer shops have very poor skills and would have no idea what a Pata connector is. I was hoping someone in the developed world would know what sort of connector it was and where I could buy one.

A standard 2.5" IDE connector is 44 pins, yours is 50

Does this laptop support 2.5" drives, or does it support 1.8" drives
You should be able to determine this from the harddrive bay in that laptop.

It looks like your system uses 1.8" harddrives just from the port on it

You probably need an adaptor like this:

Not sure if this helps but I found a picture of it here:

    http://www.ipc-computer.de/it-pi-n-...itac_MiNote_8317-cP-75_24950-pId-1414546.html

click on the video tab and you can see the picture. (video is gone though).

also this place has the drivers for that model:
    http://mtc.mitacservice.com/MISC/M0100/F0110_Homepage.aspx?Region=Global

and you can download the user manual here:

this place seems to have some parts for it:
