hmm there are a few USB options that are not creative. Might be costly though, have a look at M-audio and one of this...

But do you need a sound card? Are you getting one for a 4/5/7.1 PC speakers system, or just for better sound?

Creative makes the best sound cards hands down. I have the usb 5.1 external and its nearly as good as my audigy 2 zs. But the xfi express card is the best sounding. Definitely get one. The xfi has better support because it is newer.

I use the soundblaster x-fi expresscard one. It's very good, very clear sound, deep bass. I'm very happy with it. :)
Don't know if they're still hard to find, but I got mine at Dell. linky.

    @ Sreesub

i know bose is over-rated...there are better manufacture for music stuff out there such as DENON, Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, JBL etc, boston acustics........ but i got this bose speaker set as a gift on my birthday...........now u tell me......wont you accept a free bose speaker set?......

I was initially thinking of selling the bose and buying something else.....but i wasn't able to find a good Powered 2.1 speaker system........all the high end are passive speaker and i would have to buy some amplifier.... ...Plus i only have a simple setup...a notebook, docking station, external keyboard & Mice and 2 22"wide screen hooked up to the docking station. ....i do not have a desktop so i cant buy a very good internal sound card and music equip.....so a bose would be the best with going too overboard on the equipment ( passive speaker , amplifier etc, )

I was just kidding. Check EMU as I mentioned. Plus Bose has the best marketing among all companies. You must be able to list a Bose speaker at 90% price and easily sell.

Another very good usb sound card with built in amplifier is Headroom's products. I have Total Bithead and it is awesome. But EMU is the flavor of the month in headfi.

I have a Total Bithead also so I an familiar with the unit. Now, this thing was designed for headphones so it only has 2-channel (ie stereo) out. It would probably drive the speakers just fine, but how do you impliment the bass?

Edit: I did a little research. The Bose system has a built-in amp so you only need to feed it a stereo signal. I would recommend listening first using whatever audio-out comes with the 'puter. You can always buy a sound card later if you're not satisfied.
