I have a Sony Vaio VGN FZ280E laptop that recently took a crap on me. It has the Blu Ray drive in it for the optical drive.

Does anyone know of an external housing to make it either a USB or Firewire (or another protocol) drive? I have a 3.5" floppy out of a Dell laptop that has a mini USB on board and have seen optical drives with the same. Just wondering if there is an aftermarket enclosure that this would be able to be slid into and used as an external drive?

I have the whole laptop listed on eBay right now, but if it doesn't sell, I would like to use the drive externally. If anyone has any idea on where I could get this, I would probably end the auction early and do that.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, something like that. The problem was that it was out of a laptop and I needed to find something with the proprietary connector that was on the back of the drive. I didnt know if there was an enclosure (think: Chinese brand) that would do the trick or if there was an adapter to convert it to either firewire or USB.

The laptop sold on eBay though, so no need for it now.

If anyone finds something like this, it might be worth posting for others if they are in the same situation. These laptops are prone to messing up (mainly from the graphics chip). It would be pretty cool to have an external blu ray burner/drive for a laptop.
