I have a 6-cell battery with 12% wear according to HWMonitor. Laptop specs in signature. During sleep, my laptop loses about 1.9% charge/hour ... Is this normal? It never wakes up to do anything and there is nothing plugged into its powered eSATA/USB port.

My Vaio needs 5% per hour on Standby (that's sleep).
Unless you hibernate - then its unusual. -

Use hibernate instead. Sleep uses significantly more power and is just marginally faster than hibernate. Although laptops are a lot better at both for energy conservation than almost any desktop.

I've carried my laptop in sleep mode over a period of close to two years now - and my old one too.
Never got hot - its not supposed to while sleeping.
If it did it woke up. -

Yeah, my laptop fan is off when it's sleeping. Never gets hot. (Quite a different story when it's awake though..)

The CPU and GPU are definitely both Off - as is the HDD. -
Oh OK. When I put my laptop to sleep it's super cool ... No heat lol for some reason hmm. I disabled hibernate since I wanted my 4 GB of space or so and I rarely use it. THanks for clearing this up though!

Sleep should not generate heat, as it's only the RAM being powered as far a I know. I know I had to tell my Toshiba to hibernate when I closed the lid, though, otherwise it seemed to wake up randomly, especially if it was sleeping and I unplugged it from its charger, like when I took it to class.

I've never had this problem with any laptop I have used. Like someone said, if it wakes up for some reason then I could see it but I turn off wireless when I put laptops to sleep.
