This will be for my laptop. I don't care about space, and I would like to have greater speed and performance for my laptop. Should I get this SSD?

Seeing how vista itself takes around 10GB in total after an installation but before tweaking, I would say if you TRULY believe space is not an issue, go for it. I had a samsung 64gb ssd to play aroudn with for a week and I had such a great experience with it. Windows starts in like ten seconds, crazy.

installing on 32gb is doable. I have a 32gb mtron ssd myself and it's awesome. just be aware it's really not a lot of space.. :)

I am using the Samsung 64GB SLC SSD. I find that it works great with other storage options like SDHC cards and expresscard memory. So I would go for it if it's in your budget...don't worry about memory too much.

Having said that I wish I had a larger SSD but it costs too much!

Yea, I basically only need vista, office, and small programs on my laptop. 32GB should be fine for me.

I had a early Samung 32GB SLC in my TZ90. It was a fine drive but not very fast. Well it was fast but nothing spectacular.

If it's the same one you may just as wel buy a fast hard drive.

Unfortunately, the HDTune result in this review is not visible:

I have vista 64 bit ultimate, a few small apps, and office 2007: total space usage is 70 gb, no games installed

When I say Apps: I mean winzip, internet security software, aim, a few screen savers, VLC player and vista codec, Catalyst driver suite, flash player (free version) for firefox, adobe reader, firefox, shockwave the free internet version (1mb big). I also have Vista dream scenes installed and ultimate extra installed. So for a 32gb, I recommend XP, and if you want to use Vista, use the home premium edition or the basic version. I dont think you have enough space for the ultimate version.

I'm guessing you have system recovery enabled and it's taking up a lot of your drive space.

I have vista business on a 32gb ssd in my tz90s, it takes "only" 22 GB with pagefile, hibernation file and system restore.

don't install vista 64bit if you want to save space. it's _huge_. it essencially installs 32bit and 64bit vista on your drive.

Also tell recycle bin to take up 1% rather than 10% :) Dave

I also had a 32 at one time and irt was positively spacious once I did some optimizing. I found out what I wanted of office only took up less than a GB. I was stunned. System restore off and the above post are the biggies I can remember. Dave

I just got the 32gb ssd samsung. I figure vista should be 20GB, and office 2GB, so the rest of the space should be fine for me.

Right-click on recycle bin > Properties > lower space given.

Other then that its not a bad idea to XP, its much smaller and seems faster to me.
