    Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire 7720G-1A2G16Mi with the Intel C2D T5250 @1,5Ghz and I want to overclock it a little bit using SetFSB.

After doing a lot of research on Google :wideeyed: I finnaly found the PLL of my laptop's motherboard: ICS9LPRS365.

But When choosing this PLL in SetFSB ( v2.2.133.97) ( ICS9LPRS365BGLF) I get always an error saying "PLL ID Error".

The problem is that I'm sure of the PLL (I get it from different sources and also from the bios's release note).

So, I will be very glad if someone try to help me on this... :)
Very sorry for my bad English.

Can you click on diagnosis, then getfsb and take a screenshot?

Thank you very much for answering
So, after doing "Diagnosis" then "GetFSB" This is what I get:

Vendor ID register 7 (bits 0-3).
    ICS is 0001, binary.

You have 0110, so I think it's not an ICS chip.

I've found this PLL on a bios's release note of a same laptop as mine, and I've confirmed this on Google, maybe even same laptops can have different PLLs??

The PDF below shows the bios release note of an Acer Aspire 7720G (the one with: ICS9LPRS365 as Clock Generator), I've noticed that this model is: ICL50/KAL10 with ATI video card, mine is: ICK70 with nVidia

In this case, I think my bios must be different from this one, right?? :(

Do you have any idea about where I can get the release note of my laptop model (Aspire 7720G-1A2G16Mi Model: ICK70)

I have tried all PLLs given by "SetFSB" and I got lot of error messages when testing, Finally I've found two PLLs that seems working in this PC given me the right frequencies:

    SLG505YC256BT
    SLG505YC264BT

The problem is that when moving the slider (increasing the FSB clock) and applying the new frequencies, the new parameters are shown only on " SetFSB" (even if I close and reopen SetFSB, change to the second SLGxxx PLL or restart windows; SetFSB shows me always what I've modified) till CPUz and Everest still showing the original frequency of the FSB (166Mhz), It seems that there is no change :( , is this because its a wrong PLL or what?? (I've tried streesing CPU with CPUBurner but the new frequencies still locked)

The attached images shows SetFSB in Diagnosis after choosing one of the two PLLs above: (SLG505YC256BT)

Probably the wrong PLL, you might also have TME mode enabled.

    Hard to know for sure.

I would keep looking for your PLL, then download the datasheet when you find it, that will help you overclock.

    Might need a pin mod.

I've make a screenshot for SetFSB/Diagnosis/GetFSB (SLG505YC256BT) in my previous post, what do you think?

What's the TME mode?? and how can I enable it??

I've make this morning a research on Google for my laptop datasheet, and I didn't find anything, (just the bios release note that I uploaded in my second post).

0110 indicate that silego pll is used.

I just found that in 7730g are used two clock generators, one is ICS9LPRS365BGLFT and the second one SLG8SP512K05. Maybe is that same in 7720g.

    Hello,

Like I said before the PLL: ICS9LPRS365BGLF is not working..., from what darnok44 and moral hazard have said and from what I've tested, it seems that my PLL is a Silego.

I can't find the SLG8SP512K05 (the one for 7730G) in SetFSB or Clockgen, there is only SLG8SP513V which give me right frequencies but no second slider and no setting for custom frequencies.

I will take a look to the pin mod trick on Google in order to get an idea about it before posting new questions...

Since my laptop has a Silego PLL, I've uploaded screeshots showing SetFSB/Diagnosis in each one of the Silego PLLs found on SetFSB, hoping that this will help...

    1. SLG505YC56DT (no error) (frequencies only applied & shown on SetFSB).
    2. SLG505YC256BTT (no error) (frequencies only applied & shown on SetFSB).
    3. SLG505YC264BT (no error) (frequencies only applied & shown on SetFSB).
    4. SLG8SP513V (no error) (no 2nd slider and no setting for higher frequencies).
    5. SLG8LP625T (PLL ID error) (unknown frequencies).
    6. SLG505YC56D (in Clockgen) gives wrong frequencies.

(The frequencies I've set on SetFSB with a SLGxxx PLL sometimes will be not the same frequency gotten by SetFSB using another SLGxxx PLL, there is only the two PLLs: SLG505YC256BT & SLG505YC264BT where changes with one of them is always the same shown by the other...)

Thank you very much moral hazard & darnok44 for your help, I hope you will continue helping me till I find solutions for my problem, I will keep looking for the pin mod on the internet for a while...

Very sorry for my very bad english.

    Hello,

I've download the datasheet but I'm unable to extract the informations I need for SetFSB (I don't how it might help), Maybe if I can get the (.pll) file of SLG8SP512 for SetFSB program, It will be much easier but I can't find this on Google.

I googled "PinModing PLL", It seems that I've to open the laptop in order to do it, and I'm not thinking that it will be a good idea...

What about FS-x PLL mod, How does it work?

That is a type of PLL pin mod.

You will need to take apart the notebook to try it.

I'm not ready to open my laptop, I don't know how and I'm not ready to take such a risk

What about finding then adding " SLG8SP512.pll" in SetFSB/Creator/Import ?

So what about writing a request to SetFSB developper in order to add the needed PLL??

you can write to him, but he will need to know the exact PLL and he wants the datasheet.

Please my friend, take some time to read this, in order to give me your ideas.

I think we are sure that my PLL is SLG8SP512K05 because:

    1. Acer Aspire 7730G is using two PLLs:
    - ICS9LPRS365BGLFT or:
    - SLG8SP512K05
    (from darnok44)
    2. Acer Aspire 7720G is using:
    - ICS9LPRS365BGLFT
(from the bios release note I've uploaded)

    3. My 7720G is using:
    - SLGxxxxx PLL
    (from darnok44)
    - So, my exact PLL is surely the: SLG8SP512K05 the second 7730G PLL. Right??

    - If yes, the datasheet is the one uploaded by darnok44: http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52.../newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=6471432

    - And for contacting SetFSB developper , Do you know how?

If your PLL is SLG8SP512K05, then I believe TME mode is enabled (byte 9 bit 6 is 1).
So you would need the TME pin mod.

    But I may be wrong...

Thanks, I just send the informations to him, I will wait for his answer for a while, and after we will look if a TME PinMod is necessary or not.

So, I think there is no "software solution" to overclock my laptop, right??

Do you have the PM965 chipset?
If so you could buy an X9000 or another extreme CPU and overclock it with throttlestop.

Otherwise you would need the FSLx pin mod.

Yes I have, so I can change my T5250 with an extreme CPU, seems like a good idea.

I'm not planning to do the FSLx pin mod because even if I do it successfully my CPU won't go so far... http://forum.notebookreview.com/6052084-post418.html

I will check if the mobile version of those extreme CPUs is available here in my country or not, because I think that opening my laptop to change the CPU will be more cleaner than opening it to do a Pin Mod

Thank you very much for your help moral hazard, I'll stop asking for a while...
