Well I managed to get hold of a place where I can purchase 2 of those, as I'm planning to RAID them to 1TB for the best performance on my M1730. As there are alot of mixed reviews out there, has anyone actually benchmarked and tested them?

This product hasn't launched in Singapore and therefore no way for me to get hold of them or judge their performance.

Because I have heard that the performance increase wasn't a such a jump from the 320GB 7200.4. Can users confirm this, or should I continue to stick to my dual 7K320 Hitachi drives? I just need more storage space, but don't want to go backward on performance.

    Thanks.

A lot of the world's knowledge about the 7200.4, including some benchmark results, is in this thread. Did you read it?

I don't think you'll notice any improvement over the 7K320. In some situations the 7K320 might even be faster.

Yes, I did read. But however it didn't quite answer what I was looking for anyway, but still somewhat I got a closer perspective. I was looking if any has RAIDed them before.

That's what I was going to emphasize, but somehow how is it so that the 7k320 outperforms it? I admit, I couldn't look through all 126 pages of that thread. Could someone provide a brief summary?

On the other hand, I think I'll just keep my drives. Judging from the way the St9500s performs I shall think twice. Unless if someone or a user of the Seagate drive has an opinion about it.

7K320 has faster acces times and faster I/O, 7200.4 has higher throughput. Based on the benchmarks I've seen sofar I think it will be give and take between the two in real life situations.

It was shown that the 5400rpm 5K500.b managed to outperform the 7200.4 in writing a 5GB folder.
