    Hi,

I was curious if anyone used the Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160GB hard drive? Is it hotter & noiser than a typical 5400 RPM hard drive?

Any other thoughts (it looked to be on the top of Tom's list).

    Thanks,
    Rich

No, its overall a great hd. I haven't heard of any complaints. Noise is not a problem not sure about battery life compared to a 5400 tho.

Noise changed only slightly compared to my older 5400rpm fujitsu drive. Power usage went up probably .4w overall, so not bad. I am running the 120gb version.

Is this drive hotter than a 80gb 5400 drive?

Generally speaking is it the larger & faster the drive, the hotter, louder, & more power it eats?

I've had both the Seagate 5400.2 & 7200.2 in 120GB, and the performance difference is noticeable when booting or writing/copying files. They both were very quiet when working.

Concerning heat, the 7200.2 seems a tad warmer (but that may have more to do with the this laptop's thermal design, as the components are a tighter fit).
