Anyone have one of these? I upgraded mine from 5400rpm to 7200rpm both seagate. My 7200 rpm is brand new and it does seem to make a very loud clicking noise especially when XP first boot up, don't know if anyone else have this sound.

I could open another new one and try it out, but I don't want to take my laptop apart again.

I deal with dozens of laptop hd monthly but I don't think I heard anything as noisy as this.

7200 is a bit loud but not too very loud. If it were brand new, you should replace it.

I would also say return the drive if it is overly loud; all the Seagate 7200RPM drives I have used have been whisper quiet.

I have the 100GB version. It's the quietest drive I have ever used, bit of a grabbag I suppose.

I have that exact drive -- 80gb, 7200rpm, Seagate -- and it is pretty quiet. I can hear it clicking away as it seeks/reads/writes, but its basically a soft sound.
