    Seagate 7200.2 vs 5400.4 Laptop Hard drive

    Hi all,

    I am currently looking for a hard drive to replace my Seagate 5400.3 in my Asus C90S laptop, because I need a bigger hard drive, but I’m at a standstill between which to pick,. I know I will definitely go for a Seagate brand but I don't know which Seagate to pick from. I want a high performance laptop hard drive that can put up with gaming and that’s why I was leaning towards the 7200.2, but then I was reading reviews about the new 5400.4 which says it’s on par with the specs of the 7200.2, and that got me confused. Does anyone have any ideas for what I should do?

    benchmarks at tomshardware mentioned that a 320gb 5400rpm is as fast as a 7200rpm 200gb.

    high density + moderate speed = lower density + higher speed. This returns true to some extent.

    but still, i think high speed, high density is up and coming, with WD's 250gb 7200rpm.

    Depending on your usage i suppose. between a 320gb 5400rpm and a 200gb 7200rpm, i would go for a the 320gb because it is cheaper and the performance is arguably comparable. But thats just my opinion. Do wait out for the others to comment bro.

    I checked out that link myself, and was shocked to see the results. For some reason, they don't sit right with me. I've owned numerous hard drives throughout my life, and I've always noticed an increase in performance, when jumping to higher RPM's. Maybe there is some type of variable unlisted? My only advice is do the research, if what you discover satisfies you, then make your decision based upon that. :)

    The 320gb drive is comparable in speeds to the 7200rpm drive, cause the 5400rpm drive has a greater data density, meaning that more data can be read in the same instantaneous moment, since more data is stored on the harddrive discs.
