    Hi,

I have an Evesham Laptop - about a year or so old.

After a while of using it, the display will shift to the right. and get very fuzzy on the far left of that shifted display, meaning that it is almost impossible to use.

It is still under warranty, but Evesham refuse to come out to it, as it is a laptop (not sure why they sell on-site warranty if they will not honour it)

Anyway - I just wondered if anyone recognised it.

What is strange is that if I open up something like Putty or another application with a black (or single colour box) that fills the screen - such as a large command line window then the screen reverts to normal. But as soon as you click onto something else, then the screen shifts immediately to the right.

My issue with sending it back to Evesham is that

    a) The issue will not happen straight away - it tends to happen only after an hour or so's use (and sometimes only when I move it from a desk to my lap)

    b) Because they say they will probably re-format it, I risk loosing all my data, passwords etc.

    c) There is no guarantee as to how fast they will fix it, and I need it on a regular basis.

If I power it down for half an hour or so the machine is then usable again.

I purchased on-site warranty for 3 years for the laptop - but clearly this is not worth the paper it is written upon.

Has anyone seen this problem before, and any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Might be a problem with the LCD cable being lose. Does it happen when you move the laptop lid?

sometimes moving it to almost flat can help, but more often it has no effect.

Personally I think it might be heat related not sure though.

First off, you should back up all your data and passwords regularly. Second, you can reformat and reinstall yourself. Third, if you paid for an on site warranty they need to honor it. Let them know if they don't that you will get the Better Business Bureau involved.

Sadly when I tried to push last time for an engineer to at least come and have a look at my laptop - they pointed to their on-site agreement which states (for all computers) that if they feel it needs a return to base then that is all we get.

They said if I didn't like that - then they would not be able to repair my laptop!!

So I guess it will have to go back.
