According to what I've read, Santa Rosa will be released in April or May and named Centrino Pro...

Do new processors usually launch simultaneously with new notebooks? Im planning on buying a fully loaded 2.0G Core 2 Duo within the next few days to last about 3 years...but wondering if Santa Rosa can be bought only a month away then it should be worth the wait..

Historically, when processors launched were there consumer notebooks available on the same day? If not, usually what was the timeframe between launch-date and notebook availability?

Any help would make my decision much easier!

Intel insiders are saying May 8th. We have no idea what the exact date is, but rest assured that it will be sometime in May.

Yes. Santa Rosa is launching with Core 2 Duo T7100, T7300, T7500, and T7700, with a 800 Mhz FSB. Most major dealers like Asus, Dell, or HP will have the new Santa Rosa processors ready to go in a week or so. They've been getting updates and motherboard samples from Intel, so they're ready. Once Santa Rosa is released, they get the green light from Intel to manufacture the notebooks.

Here's an example of how fast companies get components into their notebooks - on the day that Intel released the first quad-core processor, Dell integrated the chip into their server line. Less than week later, the Dell XPS 710 was released, with a consumer quad-core QX6700.

The older generation Core 2 Duo is now 6 months old. It's best to stay on top of current technology. With Santa Rosa comes fun new gadgets like DX10 mobile graphics cards/DX10 integrated graphics, like the Intel X3000, as well as Robson flash cache.

But for manufacturers like HP, can we order before then? Or do we have to wait until after it's "released"
