I am seriously considering getting a 500GB Samsung 840 (not Pro) being offered at $310 on Adorama.com. My worry is that reviews point to their uncertainty with the longevity and reliability of the drive.

Does anyone have any hard data on this or this just overzealous cautiousness? 3 years warranty's fine with me as I plan to upgrade to a larger, faster, cheaper and better SSD by that time.

If 3 yrs warranty is fine with you why do you care?

Samsung must have done at least a million tests to verify that the drive will work fine for a typical user for 3 years. Nobody offers 3 yrs of warranty for a drive that is proven to fail in a year...

This is because it is a new product. With Samsung's phenomenal record, I'm willing to bet the 840 (regular and pro) is a near perfect SSD - the best on the market.

You'll be fine, go for it.
