    Hi.

I start my notebook it shows windows loading then black screen for 30 seconds and then it boots to the desktop.

What is it doing for the 30 seconds when the screen is black, I have checked my startup`s and everything seems ok.

Total boot time 73 seconds till everything finishes loading.

    Thanks

    John.

OK, I went though the event log and corrected all the critical and errors messages, but i still get the black screen for the same length of time

I booted with boot logging but could not find the reason for the delay.

You could try running Soluto. It might be able to identify whatever is taking its time to get running.

OK, I installed Soluto i tried this last in 2010, Anyway it says my notebook boots in 35 seconds, but then it is not responsive for 1 minute.

I am going to time it by hand.

EDIT: It took 81 seconds from pressing the power button till the last app skype loaded.

Might try safe mode to rule out driver/program. And drive health ok?

Safe mode boots in 5 seconds, and i added 4 seconds to make it look real.

My ssd toolkit says my sdd is in the green, and i did the read/write test this morning.

So it`s something that is being booted, I have disabled all the startup-items in task manger so it not them.

I only have sidebar in programs/startup

Is there any other startup lists i can check.

    thanks

    John.

Run -> msconfig -> Startup, that will show registry startups as well. And check Services via Administrative Tools, set the suspect ones to 'manual'.

msconfig -> Startup only gives you a link to the normal win8 task manger, never used msconfig since Win7.

Ah, no experience with 8 ... regedit still exists, I'd hope?

    If so, check these locations:

Add all three to favourites, makes it easier to delete all those annoying auto-update thingies. Everything Adobe/Google -> registry -> delete keys ... a habit, really.

Yes, regedit still exists, it will likely continue to exist as long as there's a registry and getting rid of the registry would be one hell of a backwards compatibility mess so I don't see it going away for some time. Anyways, you could try running off the stock video driver or another version of the video driver. If you could have a list of the order in which components are started, it might help pinpointing the issue. Given that the display remains black, I'm betting it's either the video driver or something that is started before the video driver is.

You could try CCleaner's list of startup entries, it has additional entires in there that are not listed in the startup menu in Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 from my experience.

I use ccleaner to clean my reg earlier today, I just checked it`s startup manger, it has just the same startup entry's as task manager.

what happened to pressing f8 at boot in Win7 you could select a mode where you could see each line of the windows starting up line for line and you could see any problems straight away.
