    Hi,
I just bought a digital receiver with the an optical in. I want to take advantage and the use the spdif out of my fujitsu siemens amilo pi1356 (shared with the headphone out jack).

According to the specs its spdif out uses an optical connection.
I havent bought the cable yet so i cant really try it out, but whats worrying me is that it doesn't seem to be any visible "optical" light being emmitted when i look in the jack.

I read the laptop review on this site and the reviewer stated that he could actually see the red light being emmitted inside the headphone jack..

Am i missing out on something?

optical/toslink is the best in sound transfer. The fiber optic is in the cable that hooks between the two. You can definately hear the difference esp in dolby dts. Once you connect one side up, you will then see the red glow. Its to sound what hdmi is to video. go for it, walmart sells the cable for $15. I just wish my sony had more inputs (1).
