What size is your SD card?
If it's more than 2GB, it may be cause your card reader can't read any card more than 2GB.
In that case you'll need an external USB card reader ;)

If it's an SDHC Card that could be the problem...not all devices can read those type cards because they are new techbology that support sizes 2GB+. Hence the name Secure Digital High Capacity Card. For instance I have a 4GB SDHC that wouldn't work in the SD slot on some computers, but it can be split into two which can then be used as a USB drive. That's the only way the computer would recognize it. Here it is! So yea..if it's greater than 2GB that could be why.

what driver and version do you have installed now? I just had the same issue and had to do an updated driver for SDHC support.

If your laptop is indeed from 2005, it is possible that your card reader cannot read SDHC cards (which are physically the same in size but not electronically the same as SD cards).

Maybe the slot on the computer is defective...or u may not be putting it in properly!

You should see something to the effect of Secure Digital Host Controllers in Device Manager...

I guess u can do a windows update...u could take a look at the BIOS...to see if there's a switch in there to enable/disable the SD slot....

After all u said u never used it before so u can take a look at those suggestions.
