    Restoring a battery...

    So the laptop battery has died, I think - it tells me it's at 100% charge under Windows, but as soon as I unplug the mains power, it turns off immediately.

    Is there a way of hopefully getting the battery to be refreshed, so that it will hold at least a bit of charge? People say stuff like putting it in the freezer, etc. etc. Do any of these actually work?

    Download Notebook Hardware Control and RMClock and see if they give any indication about the battery's wear. Plus freezing the battery is not a solution. You can keep it in a sealed plastic bag, in the refrigerator, and see if that helps in anyway.

    In addition to what Andy said also check to see if your notebook has a battery recall. If you're lucky there was a known defect and you can get a new battery for free from the manufacturer ;). Check out the manufacturers support site for that info.
