Say i want to buy a 30" 2560x1600 dell monitor, can a toshiba tecra s10 or lenovo elite t400 run at that resolution, im not talking gaming im talking about just being able to show picture at said resolution. Is the resolution depended on the monitor, the laptop or both?

Here's the deal, your laptop screen will support up to a certain resolution, your video card will support up to a certain resolution. Because it's pragmatic, your video card will most likely support up to, and higher than the max resolution of your screen. It is likely the video card in your laptop will support a resolution much higher. I believe even a newer integrated chipset will support up to that resolution, though possibly with shoddy performance. But even the weaker dedicated card will support that resolution no problem. I'm unsure of what the video card's in those laptops (I'll double check on them later) but if they are dedicated or have a newer integrated graphics card, you should be alright. Also don't forget you need to make sure there are the right connections (be it hdmi, dvi, vga) so double check all that matches up. And you should be set. Let me know if you have trouble and I'll take more of a look alright?

Edit: I took a quick glance at those laptops, and they both have dedicated graphics options with more than enough umph. Umm as long as they have the right connection (again, dvi, hdmi, vga) on that dell monitor and the laptop you should be set with either one.
