Hi guys, i have a m17x r3 with 8 gb of ram (2x4) 4 sticks of 2gb. I would like to upgrade it to at least 16gb for under 100 bucks. Any recommendations? The cheaper the better, i dont really care about the speed. Thanks!

Samsung 30nm ultra low voltage RAMs with Samsung lifetime warranty.

    Amazon.com: Samsung Electronics Extreme Low Voltage 30nm SODIMM 8 Dual Channel Kit DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM MV-3T4G3D/US: Electronics

    Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model MV-3T4G3D/US

The max config for this is 4GB per stick
No quad channel kit unfortunately, just dual channel kits

    Notable details
    • #1 RAM Manufacturer, doesn't use rebranded chips from Nanya, etc.. Pure Samsung chips, expect reliability
    • Ultra Low Voltage
    • Won some Techpowerup award
    • Low profile RAMs, they're about 20% shorter than the 40-50nm RAMs from other manufacturers
    • Look at the desktop version's reviews, its an extreme overclocker because of low voltages and very low heat output. Surpasses many RAMs aimed at Gaming, including corsair vengeance etc.(Since the laptop pair of these RAMs don't get too much attention as to its desktop versions)
    • Look at the Amazon reviews of the desktop version, whopping 5.0 /5.0 stars
    • Look at the Newegg reviews, last time I saw out of 103 reviews, 100 reviews were giving a 5/5 rating
    • I own a pair, never had issues, installation was just "click in" and its all ready.

If you want to get a "kit" on Amazon, go with Amazon, not a 3rd party seller on Amazon because they might give you some unmatched pairs. I honestly don't think you'll go wrong with these.

Unfortunately in the RAM market since Japan's Elpida went bankrupted prices have gone up. The market consolidated because Micron bought over the its facilities, there's one less competitor, probably some less supply and such therefore prices have been raised. Just months back before Elpida died I bought my sticks at $38. :( $35 was the lowest but I don't think you'll see any of these prices with any manufacturer in the near term. They should be in the $50s.
