I bought an HP dv5000z with 256mb RAM and added a 512mb card that I bought seperatly to get 768mb, because it was the same price as 2 256mb card from HP. I was wondering because a couple of people I know say that I can add 2gb instead of 1.5gb like I was planning. I have an AMD Turion ML-34 1.8ghz, and I thought that I could only add 1.5gb, but like I said, a few people said that I could add 2gb to it, would this work???? They say that it is what the motherboard can handle, but my impression was that I could not have anymore RAM than my porcessor had Mhz.

You can't just add 2GB, but it will support up to 2GB. You just need to get two 1GB SODIMM's for your notebook, and install both of them.

I've never heard of that before, but relax as it is not true. You can have up to 2gb in that laptop if you wished, of course wiht memory prices pretty high at the moment you might want to hold off
Your laptop runs on single channel memory so you do not need to worry about adding memory in pairs. Though if you are getting 2gb, it will be 2x1gb.

Thanks, I found the RAM on Amazon, but it is about $120 per stick of pc3200, and the same for pc2700, I am going to add it soon because I am using more and more apps at the same time. I have just on other thing I forgot to add, how much of a difference would I notice if I installed 2 1gb pc3200 card with 400mhz bus vs. a pair of pc2700 cards with a bus of 333mhz???

As you said DDR333 and DDR400 are at the same price so go with DDR400 (pc3200). Your video card will benefit from the faster RAM, as will all applications. The diffference is not huge but if you work with lots of applications you'll sense it. The greatest boost will come from the fact that you have 2gb RAM.
