Hey guys, gonna send in a laptop today for my first RMA (faulty bezel = slight gap, clicking sounds from hard drive) and was wondering what sort of stuff I should watch out for and how to prepare for it.

I assume like a lot of other people, if you get a desktop replacement (like me) laptop, you end up "living" in that laptop - you store your passwords, have shared files (like dropbox, etc.), and have private files.

Are there any precautions for things like that? Is there anything I can do - short of uninstalling programs, wiping out my passwords, etc.?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! :D

I would be more worried about the hardware upgrade you have done, have you any?

Also, if you get clicking sound from your hard drive, it will most likely be replaced, so you will lose all your data!

Nah, the laptop's relatively new - no aftermarket updates although I did bump up the network card while they were doing the config.

The clicking sound's not constant - it's only occasional and so far it's not like click-something's-stuck-click but almost like mouse clicks.

I've already (or will; I canceled it because it was taking too long and I wanted to play sc2 :D ) made a backup, so yeah, only worry are my passwords and whatnot.

typically I would backup then factory reset and be done with it.

Clicks like that are usually a hard drive resetting its heads. I would backup my data before sending it in

I would backup and then use the Gutmann method to erase all the data.
