I am planning to get a Asus G2S laptop that comes with 2x1g RAM = 2gb RAM and I am thinking to immediately raise this amount to 3GB or 4GB.

Which is best option for the laptop and in what combination?

    - 1x1gb + 1x2gb
    or
    - 2x2gb
    or
    - just 4gb stick - is it the best for the laptop's perfomance?

Asus G2S owners, will the lappy recognise anyhting more than 3GB?

    thnx

2X2GB will work the best. Windows will only see maybe between 3GB and 3.25GB of it but will run "true" Dual Channel. The limitation on seeing the entire 4GB's is a 32 bit OS limitation not a notebook brand one even though it does vary. More to do with your hardware than brand. 3GB's is good and will function well in "flex" Dual Channel, minor performance hit on benchmarks. Better than 2GB's overall. 4GB's costs about $80 on NewEgg. 4GB stick? Have not heard of. And if it does it is the worst choice anyway (not Dual Channel).

I am currently using 1gb+2gb with no issues and a significant boost. I got my Kingston value ram at frys for 40 bucks and am saving the 1gb stick for an upcoming eee.

Thanks powerpack, I meant just one 4GB RAM :)

@all, thanks for the info so I am better of getting 2x2gb or 2x1gb to be on the lappy

Thanks E.B.E for that link. I have decided to het the 2GB lappy and Upgrade it to a 1x1gb + 1x2gb = making 3gb in total. I will be saving some cash that way. If I buy the 3gb directly from store, it is about 1700 and with the 2gb lappy, it is just 1477. I can get a 2gb RAM here for 80€ so I can still save some more :D

why not just configure it with 1 Gb installed and get an additional 2 Gb stick to install yourself? that was cheaper for me on my t61p. does the g2s only come with a base of 2 Gb?

I doubt he has that option, and from what he has said I guess he knows that. So even more sure not an option. But correct if you can. ;)

    I agree.

    -Asus FAQ

The OP is probably buying it from a retailer that doesnt offer customization...some Asus Resellers(GentechPC, xoticPC, etc) do offer HDD and Ram(and CPU if you want to void the warranty)cusomization for Asus ensemble models like the G2s but I dont think they offer a 1x1GB Option(though their upgrade prices for ram are pretty good)

Id say 3GB is probably enough, but it depends on what you use your PC for. DUal Channel doesnt give too much of a speed boost and size is much more important. But 2x2 (4GB) is the best. Yes the G2S can use 4GB. I suggest Crucial, but some people say it doesnt matter

But not with a 32bit OS.

There was a time in the past when brand mattered, for the most part that is no longer the case, especially with notebooks. Crucial is good but so are most others. The bad ones were weeded out years ago for example Intel, think about that. Today, any brand just get lifetime warranty. Just my little clarification. :)

only will get a RAM with lifetime warranty like Kingston. Well, I can not get the g2s with fully customizable from anywhere except notebook.de. I would also like to have the Swedish/Finnish keyboard also with my customization.

over here, you have look for the laptops from retailers and they are in most cases fully configured for the customer. just start it and off you go. there is also no asus g2s with 1gb. They are all 2gb, 4gb and 3gb RAMs so I intend on taking the g2s with 2gb RAM and upgrade myself.

Or do you guys know where I can get the asus g2s fully customized and can choose the Finnish/Swedish keyboard too? Something like notebook.de but where I can choose the CPU, GPU, Hdd, OS e.t.c myself and checkout? :D
