    Hey,
i'm planning to buy a Compaq V6000T. Can anyone tell me what type of RAM i have to get after buying? (I want to upgrade) My minimum should be 1GB of RAM in the end. Providing a link to a product (preferrably on Newegg) would be great! :)

and one more question, i am customizing the laptop at the HP store. i chose a Windows Vista Home Premium. will it be possible to ship it with the stock 512 MB of RAM or do i HAVE TO get 1GB from them? it is much cheaper to buy later from Newegg or some other store.

    thanks in advance to everybody!

hey, just wanted to addone last question....do you guys think i will be better off with the V6000Z with the 64 bit Turion X2? i read in some posts that people are preferring that. i also read in some reviews that the Turion X2 is not as good as the Core Duo in terms of performance and battery life.....what do you suggest?

your thoughts about the turion x2 are correct =, stay away from it!

as for the ram, unfortunately HP MAKES you buy 1gb (512x2) if you get premium, they dont even have an option for just a single dimm 1gb stick (jerks...).

I have upgraded one of my 512 sticks to 1gb so i now have 1.5gb (i got the 1gb stick for dirt cheap, 50 shipped!). If you want, you can just get the vista basic w/512 and upgrade that with a nother 512 stick (which i can sell you right out of MY dv6000t) and then upgrade to premium w/HP's discs

    thanks for the swift reply.
are you sure about hp making me buy a minimum of 1GB RAM? a customizing of the laptop here: "http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Brand&v1=Compaq+Presario&series_name=V6000T_series" shows that i can have a 512 MB RAM.

i was asking about the TurionX2 vs Intel Core Duo becuase of this post : "http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=1681952&postcount=8". i would really appreciate if you could enlighten me on this!

    thanks again!

ddr2 pc4200 or ddr2 pc5300 will both work in your machine. Get whichever you can find cheaper.

i bought 2x1gb sticks from this user on ebay: http://myworld.ebay.com/cheapparts06

they were $50 each. he has upped the price to $60 each, but if you ask him nicely he will sell both to you for $50 a piece, like he did for me.
