I'm debating getting an hp dv8000t but i can't decide how much ram to get. I was going to get 1 gig because it is an extra 200 for 2 gigs. so my question is will i notice a difference if i get 2 gigs. I will be running quite a bit and some at the same time:

    Dreamweaver 8
    Flash 8
    Fireworks 8
almost everything in Adobe Creative Suite except GoLive
    also the Adobe Production Studio
    some Solidworks 2006

    and every now and then
    Maya 7
    Lightwave 8
    and a little video transcoding

So with that info would it be that big of a difference if I'm only playign games very minimally. Or should I just get the ram aftermarket from newegg

    Thanks,
    Paul

i'm not 100% sure, but some of those programs look ram hungry. if you are going to upgrade, i would definitely suggest to upgrade aftermarket.

Aftermarket RAM installation is fairly easy with the dv8000. I'd look at the cost of the RAM on Newegg and go accordingly. If it's cheaper doing it aftermarket, then go that way.

I just thought of something. If I were to replace one of the two 512 stock sticks with a 1 gig stick (so a total of 1.5 gigs) would that be more of a performance increase even though I'd lose dual channel functionality?

You have some ram hungry graphic programs there, If you want to ever upgrade to 2 gigs, now would be the best time. I would also go aftermarket, cost reasons. You dont want to be stuck with memory you dont need

Okay I'm on a fairly tight budget so i can either get a 1.83 ghz core duo with 2 gigs ram or a 2 ghz core duo with 1.5 gig of ram. which would probably have a better performance increase
