Purchased the XPS M170 with 1 gig RAM. Was interested to get suggestions on places to look for RAM (usually newegg.com) and what types? I'm new to laptops, so don't know much about what to shop for.

    Thanks!

Newegg is my choice. They are unrivalled in my opinion. Some manufacturers are picky about RAM, but for brands I'd say Crucial, Corsair, OCZ or Kingston. MSI recommends Kingston, and I've had luck with them. The others are highly reputable.

Looking to add a 512MB or even perhaps two 1GB sticks to a new Inspiron e1505.

Went to Newegg and agree their prices are the best. However, big brands (eg Crucial) other than Kingston out of stock. Anyone have experience with the Aeneon line by Infineon. It's dirt cheap on Newegg and in stock, unlike others such as Crucial.

It is likely it is not tested as much slightly increasing the chance it won't work in case you'll probably have to pay to ship it back.

Honestly I'm a big fan of brand name ram, because with ram, brand names make a big difference in performance.

BUTT, this is a big BUTT, hehe, I say try out Apacer, which is what I have. I did a little reading about Apacer after finding out I had this ram that this DDR2 ram does extremely well against the name brands. It Actually outperforms some of them and this is a budget brand.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Did you try to check availability at www.zipzoomfly.com their prices are competitve to those of newegg. And their service is very good. I have bought quite a few things from them and was always satisfied.
