    Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire 4830tg-6808 with a geforce gt540m and I want to upgrade the video card. I've never done a laptop upgrade outside of ram, so I've been trying to do some research but I can't seem to find any specific or useful information. Is upgrading the gpu even possible? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for a good upgrade? If it is possible, would it just be more cost effective to buy a new laptop?

Also, I've overclocked the 540m to 775/1550/1000 with afterburner and the temps of the gpu and cpu are within safe levels (I use a cooling pad with adjustable fans) with no artifacting, but the gains are only 5-10 fps, at best. I think I'd get a lot more out of an upgraded card, but again, I can't figure out if it's possible and I want to be sure before I start taking things apart.

I'll post my info below. Thanks for any help!

Gonna have to second this one. Your 540m is built onto the motherboard. Sorry spdbump08..

As you can see in the picture below, the 540m is the BGA chip in the upper right of the motherboard with 4 DDR3 modules (4 more are probably on the underside of the MB), the BGA you see right below that is Cougar Point-M PCH, then directly to the right of the PCH is your i5 Sandy Bridge CPU.
See link below for your motherboard:

Found a block diagram for reference:

(Did all of this on my iPhone... Wow that really sucked.. :D )
