    Hi everybody,

I just found out about this website about a week ago and have been floored by the wealth of information here! I am contemplating the purchase of a Compaq Presario v5000z with the Turion processor. It comes with 256MB of RAM. I would like to upgrade this with some RAM from newegg.

I mainly do word processing, spreadsheets, cruise the web, and email. I might also play the occasional Unreal Tournament 2004.

My question is can I upgrade the RAM by just adding one 512MB strip to it (bringing the total to 768MB)? Would this be sufficient for my tasks? Or is it better to upgrade the RAM in identical pairs (2 x 512MB)?

I also have a question about the Turion, but I'll put that in another post.

    Thanks!

For your uses 768MB should be more than fine and it is not necessary. But getting 1Gb(2X512MB) would be ideal but not really necessary.

newegg had a great deal the other day on 1gb Crucial pc3200. I went with that with the intent of adding a 2nd one later if I so choose. I could use it with 1 of the 256 mb chips it came with but then it would stop down to pc2700.
