I recently installed a new CPU using Arctic Silver, did it correctly, etc. My question is that I am going to have to take the heat sink/CPU out in a few days just for a few minutes and then re-install them (new motherboard), so do I need to do the entire cleaning/reapplication process or can I just do a little buffing of the existing compound I had applied a few weeks ago with a coffee filter and perhaps put a minuscule drop of Arctic Silver when I put everything back in? Any suggestions on the application if I have to do that?

It's good practice to clean off everything and re-apply the paste everytime you remove the heatsink, but in practice, at least for AS5, it doesn't really make that big of a difference if you reuse the old paste within a reasonable time frame.

If you want the best performance, clean it all of and apply it again. Unless you don't have any paste left, it shouldn't be a problem. It is only like 5 minutes max.
