    I have a Gateway P-6860 and was wondering if anybody knew if the laptop supports quad core cpu's. I dont even know if they make them yet, but i am going to upgrade my cpu in the next year or so and was wondering if anybody knows anything about this subject. Any response would be great.

    Thats a negative. We are limited to dual core, as are most other laptops. There isnt a mobile quad core as of yet. The laptops you see running quad cores are using a desktop cpu.

    Sure,

    Taken from wiki:

    Montevina platform (2008)

    The codename Montevina refers to the fifth-generation Centrino platform, now formally named Centrino 2 to avoid confusion with previous Centrino platforms. It was scheduled for release at Computex Taipei 2008, which took place on June 3 - 7, 2008,[10] but was delayed until July 15, due to problems with integrated graphics and wireless certification.[11] Montevina will support Penryn, Intel's 45nm die-shrink version of Core 2 processors.
    Centrino Montevina platform
    Mobile chipset an Intel Mobile 4 Express series chipset (codenamed Cantiga; GL40, GS45, GM45, GM47 or PM45) with Intel's GMA X4500 graphics technology and ICH9M southbridge, 1066 MT/s front side bus. The graphics core GM45/47 is expected to be clocked at 533/640MHz which will contain ten unified shaders, up from the eight provided by GMA X3100.

    * RAM support for DDR2-667, DDR2-800, DDR3-800, DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM.
    * NAND flash-memory caching branded as Intel Turbo Memory (codenamed Robson 2).
    * Gigabit Ethernet LAN controllers 82567LM and 82567LF (codenamed Boazman).[12].
    * Main support for DisplayPort with an external connector attached to the motherboard along with full supplemental support of HDMI, DVI, and VGA standards.

    Mobile processor Processors - Socket P / Micro-FCPGA/Micro-FCBGA

    * a second-generation Intel Core 2 Duo (codenamed Penryn) 45nm processor with 1066 MT/s FSB with clock speeds ranging from 2.26 GHz to 3.06 GHz, also featuring SSE4.1 support, which adds 47 new instructions to SSSE3. It is planned to consume no more than 29W, compared to Merom's and first-generation Penryn's 34W TDP.

    Wireless network Wireless Modules

    * an Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 mini-PCIe adapter (codenamed Shiloh), and the add-on card WiMAX (802.16) (codenamed Dana Point), or
    * the Intel combo WiFi/WiMAX Link 5150/5350 mini-PCIe adapter (code-named Echo Peak).

    Technically you could get an X9000, but the fastest youre going to get is 3ghz with the Gateway. The T9300 is considered the best performance improvement for the money.

    Well you can get the x9000, but you're gonna pay $400 more for 300mhz, which is not likely to be noticed.

    You cannot upgrade to the T9600 in your link since it is a second generation Penryn for Montevina. The X9000 is viable but costly and the speed difference gives negligible performance gains.
