Someone please help me understand this processor "bit" business.

Here's what I understand... There are two kinds of processors, the Intel and AMD. Intel is 32 bit and AMD is 64 bit. Intel offers a very fast "Core Duo" processor, but AMD has a slower, 64 bit processor. Windows Vista only runs with or will run much better with 64 bit... Whereas the Intel 32 bit processors will soon be obsolete. Dual Core 64 bit processors will be available from AMD in May...

First, please correct me where I'm wrong.

Second, how important really is this 32 v 64 bit question. I'd really like to get my laptop now, and not have to wait until May... but I also want this laptop to last me for four years.

SO... Do I need to wait the extra month or so?

    Thanks
