Has anybody noticed the added markup for the new Intel 600p SSD's from the resellers?

    Newegg/amazon have:
    600p 256/512GB $105/$190
    850 Evo 250/500GB $95/$170
    Difference $10/$20

    vs.

    XoticPC (upgrading from 256GB X400)
    600p 256/512GB +$40/$145
    850 Evo 250/500GB +$20/$110
    Difference $20/35

So Xotic is tacking on an extra $10 to $15 premium for no reason. Is this simply a new product markup that will eventually come down? I just don't understand what's going on here. What am I missing? Thanks!

That is what resellers do. What you're missing is just simply 'business as usual'. ;)

The extra cost is for people who don't want to bother installing and setting up the drive for themselves and is a lot cheaper than what a place like Best Buy would charge to do the same thing. Not everyone is as computer literate as those in this community. They just want their stuff set up and forgotten about.

Labour costs money and the resellers offer this service for people who can't be bothered/don't have the time/skill to install the SSDs... Nothing new, if you want it cheaper do it yourself!

Also the fact that Xotic/Sager would deal with the headache of a warranty claim instead of the end user. PC part manufacturers aren't always known for providing the best customer service.

Actually the question wasn't why they mark up the components.

Why do they mark up the 600p more so than the rest of the ssd's?

Also why does the markup vary dependant on the capacity of the drive?

I would think the premium would be constant regardless of capacity and ssd maker.

The premium is a percentage. If you spend more on a higher capacity drive you pay the same percentage but a larger value.

Maybe it's a newer component in limited supply, so the extra effort or cost to get SKUs justifies the higher markup.
