    Hi,

I have a confusing problem with my laptop power to the extent that I can't work out whether it is a hardware or software issue and was wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions.

When I plug my laptop into AC power, it receives power and charges as per normal. But when it reaches 100% battery charge, the battery stops charging, the screen goes dim just like there's no AC power. No matter what I do (unplug & reconnect AC power, reboot) the battery will not charge. But once I turn it off, the battery will charge, or if I actually power cycle it, it will charge while on. As long as I never let it reach 100% battery charge, behaviour is completely normal.

    Any ideas?

What brand/model laptop do you have?

It's a Dell Inspiron 1100 - I have two power adaptors that both give the same behaviour, so I'm confident that's not it.

If the display is going dim exactly when the battery charging stops then it looks like a hardware problem. That definitely shouldn't happen.

I think you will need to contact Dell.
