    Hey guys,
Ever since the power jack in my first laptop broke, I have always been afraid about the power jack in my laptops since none of these notebook makers (besides Apple with Magsafe (minus the fires)) seem to care about finding some way of making the power jack more secure on the mother board.

I was thinking of buying something like this. DC Power Cable Extender.
I would buy a shorter one, keep it attached to my power jack, and then plug/unplug my notebook charger from this cable instead of the jack in the laptop. This would avoid the stress on the inner power jack.

The cable 2.5mm/5.5mm is the right size for my laptop. Do you guys think this would work? Is there something I'm overlooking?

There are maybe 6 commonly used DC jacks and at least 20 different variants I'm aware of. Make sure it's the right size before you buy it.

Having a cable extender wouldn't prevent the type of damage you experienced. Simply plugging the cable in and out doesn't do any damage, it's the perpendicular tugging that breaks the internal solder joints. Extending the cable might reduce the chance of damage a miniscule amount, but it's nothing like the quick release on the MagSafe.

That would actually probably lead to more damage. It would have a solid connection to your power jack as a little dangly bit off the edge of your laptop all the time... put it in your bag, bump it a bit and you've broken your power jack.

I would highly recommend against anything along this line of thought. It won't help you, and it will likely make things more dangerous.
