Last week I got myself a new laptop. Went for a Clevo 150HRM based laptop which I configured with a 500GB Seagate 7200rpm HDD.
Im not sure if there is a problem with the HDD or anything else, but when I do tasks that are not very HDD-demanding, it almost seems as the disc slows to a stop and then has to start up again. This causes what I could best describe as "lag" as the HDD makes a 'clunk' kind of noise. When the laptop is just idling, the HDD makes this noise around once every minute or so. When the HDD is at full work when i copy files or such, this does not happen at all and there is no indication that the HDD is struggling.
I checked the event list in the control panel and it reported a few incidents where there was an error that was caused by a fault on the controller on \Device\Harddisk1\DR3. This on the other hand has stopped as I updated the drivers for the SATA controller. So then I'm back to the HDD.
Could there be some kind of power setting that is not covered in the power management tab in the control panel? I have turned off all power saving options to see if that helped, but no change. I have also ran all the tests in the SeaTools program from Seagate without any problems. I have not yet had the time to let HDD Regenerator run and check all the blocks of the HDD. Will try that tonight.
Anyone got something on this?

sounds perfectly normal. I don't remember where one can change the option, though, as i'm on ssd myself.
isn't it in the advanced power profile options? that old-style tiny dialog where one has to scroll and open the tons of things? i thought it was there. -
Yes, I have done turned that off in the advanced power settings or what it's called. Sisoft Sandra on the other hand reports that power- and acoustic management is enabled and that it could impair performance. So I was just wondering if there was something else that I had overlooked.

Use that to check your drive. -
Yes, as I wrote in my first post, SeaTools ran fine in alle tests, so no indication there.
To further explain what I am experiencing; for instance when I model something in Pro/E and I rotate the model, the rotation "lags" for a second, every minute or so, but my cursor still follows my movements. I tried to record this with a screen recorder, but since the HDD is then active in saving the recording, I could not duplicate it. Could possibly try to record it with a camera or so.
Here's a link to the video showing the problem. (As you can see, the cursor moves fine when the applications freeze (happens in all programs))
Possibly faulty HDD?
