    Hello All!

I just recieved a new Seagate Momentus 500gb 7200rpm hdd (ST905003N3A1AS-RK model) that I plan on using as a second internal drive for my AW M17x r1. It's obviously going to just be used as a storage dump for my SSD, for files I don't access on a daily basis.

I wanted to know from all of you before I installed it, what you thought about this hdd, and do you reccomend anything else? I've read that it's great but not very reliable. I NEED reliability and 500gb, anything else is secondary to me. Of course quietness and speed would be nice too! Nothing outrageously expensive either

Should I look for something else, or am I fine?

    Thanks everyone for any suggestions!
    :)

Haven't even heard of that model!

I would look for either a Hitachi 7K500 or a WD Scorpio Blue - both very dependable, capable and with similar power envelopes - but I would favour the Hitachi in 2010.

    Good luck.

So everyone is in agreement that I should go with a 500gb of the Hitachi 7K500? The other Hitachi 500gb/7200rpm I shouldn't go for then?

She won't die on me and loudly yell at me all day then huh? no problems from y'all?

    THANKS for the tips!

Wait -- do you already have the Seagate drive you mentioned in your first post? It will work fine as a secondary storage drive. As a primary drive I would advise something else (the 7200.4 is slow compared to the Hitachi 7K500/Western Digital Scorpio Black), but seeing you have an SSD that's obviously not a problem.

If you don't have the drive, I would go with a Western Digital Scorpio Blue (WD5000BEVT 500GB or WD6400BEVT 640GB) or Seagate Momentus 5400.6 640GB; they are 5400RPM drives so they won't be as fast as a 7200RPM, but since the drive is for storage that's a mute issue. They will run cool and quiet.

It is fine since you're going to use it as storage drive.
