Firstly, how much does it cost? Secondly does it have sound lag like the USB ones? Thirdly, do you know if you can get them with other interfaces as well as HDMI?

I've been wanting to get something along these lines for a while so I can use my PS2 on my computer (PCSX2 doesn't run well enough on my computer).

I tried again with PS3. Best option in DScaler is "Even Scanlines Only". I didnt have any sound Issue.

Here is a complete step-by-step guide here for setup as well as recording.

    http://lparchive.org/techsupport/guide-dscaler.html

    Hope this helps.

Or you can use ever so famous Virtual Dub ... which is considered best out there for video capuring and playing at the same time.

Awesome. This is an expresscard product which would also need to do on-the-fly compression if wanting to do 1080P images at 60Hz. Means the eGPU people have a solution to pipe the image back to their notebook screen at full FPS.

    Too expensive at US$170-200

Only problem is it costs US$170-200 according to alibaba.

Amazing Nando, that will be great, I was checkin other HD Capture devices usin expresscard rangin from $500.00 to $1000.00+ ... this seems to be the cheapest option available. But I havent bought it yet and waitin for reviews. It is available on ebay though for US$ 184.93. Here's the link for it.

ASUS G73/G74 doesn't have an expresscard slot so it won't work. I'm not sure which gaming notebooks still have them. Business notebooks like a 15.6" Lenovo W520 and the pricey 17" HP 8760W have expresscard slots.

Perhaps consider an Business notebook + eGPU solution instead for gaming, swapping in/out the expresscard as needed? See details in sig if interested.

My MSI GX660R has an Expresscard Slot.

The follow up models (GT683R, GT780R, etcetera) seem to have done away with them, which seems a shame.

USB 3.0 is nowhere near as fast as PCI Express, so no, that would not work.

USB 3.0 should be fast enough to handle full HD no problem.

But that does not mean you can play live with no lag, the device may induce lag if its compressing it as it streams, or the computer may induce lag if it has to process the stream before it is viewed.

I have to look into that device more wonder how it stacks up against the HDPVR most people use to record console footage for youtube.

USB 3.0 is 5GT/s, equivalent to a x1 2.0 (or x2 1.0) PCI express link, so has the bandwidth necessary to deliver full HD 1920x1080x32-bit @ 60FPS (497.66MB/s)

More of a concern is price. Black Magic stuff wasn't affordable last I checked. Worth waiting for USB 3.0 framegrabbers based on DisplayLink ICs. They were scheduled for release around now.

Hey guys, that HD80E looks great. I've got a Dell Vostro 3550 laptop with an AMD 6630 dedicated graphics card in it. I want to play F1 2011 on my desktop PC (AMD 5850), but have the Vostro screen displaying what I'm seeing on my desktop monitor simultaneously. Then record the gameplay with fraps on the laptop as I play it on PC, so that there's no framerate drop on my PC. Currently, recording with fraps on my PC drops frames a lot. Will this express card allow me to do that, without affecting framerates on either computer? I presume I can connect HDMI out from pc graphics card or monitor to the express card slot?

I bought one to use with my Acer 8942G, Windows 7, 64-bit.

I use the drivers provided on the installation disk, but I get the BSOD when trying to use it.

Also, I am not sure about the "bundled" video software. They provide the serials in a txt file on the disk.

I had to reinstall Windows in this week, so I will try it again and report back.

So the re-install of Windows did the trick. The program I use (provided on the disk), is "honestec HD DVR 2.5". The other program (uTV), does not play well with my version of Windows.

I won't be recording anything (unless asked), but want to use my laptop as a second TV at times when playing XBox.

Issues thus far: When removing the card and re-inserting it, you only get sound and no video. Restarting my system fixed this.

If you have any further question, just give me a shout.

    I have questions... :D

    1) Do you really get 720p video?? @ 60 Hz ???
    2) What about the sound??? 5.1? 2.0???
    3) Any issue while playing? delay???
    4) The games can be played at full screen?
    5) overall what's your score for the gadget between 1 to 10??
    6) what's the problem when recording? need a fast CPU?

I am really interested about this, I want to buy this thing, even I don't have a Xbox360 but I want one in the future..

    Hi guys

I think they need to work on the drivers for this a bit more. It worked on Friday. On Saturday, I update my display drivers for ATI HD5850. I would expect just to plug in the card, connect the HDMI cable and that it would work.

I wanted to do all the tests that tyranus7 asked, but the honestech software just keeps on giving "Could not initialize the capture device". I first got it working with Debut Video Capture Software on Friday (which I uninstalled again). I re-installed that, but still no luck.

I uninstalled the device from Device Manager, restarted, and re-installed. Restarted after the install, but no luck. I have tried every setting for the device, still no luck.

I'll contact the manufacturer to find out if they have updated drivers in the works.

In the mean time, if anyone is in the UK (shipping to the US might be a bit expensive) and want to see if it works on their system, we can try and work something out.

Tyranus7, for now, my score for the gadget is 0.

I have just purchased and recieved in the mail the other day. I plugged it in and installed the drivers on the disc followed by the Honestech software provided. My computer detects the capture card and says all drivers are up to date for the capture card as well as my graphics card. When i plug my ps3 hdmi cable into the capture card and turn it on it shows nothing but a black screen in the honestech software. i also tried recording with just the webcam on and it says "recording failed". I would appreciate some help in resolving the issue. i have looking online and can not find a troubleshooting guide for the product.

Alright what I did to fix the black screen issue was I reset my ps3 video settings, for xbox 360 same thing. I've been trying to get my audio to work is my problem

*Update* Hit internal speaker streaming in settings for audio to work. It's working great guys! I bought mine for $140 and can now use my M17x as my tv screen for my Xbox 360 or PS3 as my tv screen :D I haven't recorded anything and probably won't but so far gameplay is perfect if I stick with 720p, anything higher and I get visual errors. For anybody who's looking for something to turn your laptop into a monitor this is it. Ask me any questions because I had quite a time trial and erring to get this working right :)

Yeah Ive got a couple. Would the capture card allow me to stream? (Or whatever the term is for letting me output a console on my computer screen)

And would an express card be better than USB 3.0? Sorry for the questions, never heard of this stuff

Closest adapter I could find was this. MR13  ( ExpressCard 34/54 reader )
That should give you all the bandwidth needed. In my opinion express card is a lot more useful than usb 3.0, I just done with a Clevo x7200 because it lacked an express card slot, you can get small hard drives, adapters, make vidocks and probably even more uses than that out of express card. For me it's the thing powering my hdmi in adapter, I just got done playing some 360 using my laptop screen which is a really nice thing for me since I don't have the space for a tv right now

After reading up on the black magic shuttle, it has some conflicting compatibility reports. some say (and they cite black magic's FAQ) that it won't work on laptops. Others say it works fine provided the motherboard has USB3.0.

why it wouldn't work on a laptop if it has native usb 3.0, I have no idea unless a driver it uses doesn't like the chipset or something???

I'm still half way considering getting it from B&H just due to their great service and return policy but not being able to use HDMI from PS3 is a bit of a buzzkill and I still don't know how good it would look on the actual laptop screen since I think you have to use their proprietary media player or something.

I can't find any info on it but does the MSI GT683DX(R) have an internal mini PCI-E slot that this could be used with?

    MR13-D  ( ExpressCard 34/54 reader )

I know it uses the Intel HM67 chipset for it's motherboard which according to intel's info, says it supports mini pci-e.

I am not really sure why this gadget is so restrictive in compatibility terms, but one guy who sells on ebay, put this on the description of the product

Why not dell?????????????.... that's odd..... Maybe there are difference between laptops motherboards and desktop motherboards which makes the product to not work.

that PDF on the company's website cites that a specific NEC usb3.0 controller chip is needed. I have no idea how many different types of usb 3.0 chips there are out there?? maybe only the x58 motherboards are the only ones that the company KNOWS about and KNOW will work?

Don't waste your time with a usb capture anything if you care about real time video (aka no input lag) especially considering that will be added on top of the lcd delay + whatever processing.

The bus by its very design is not low latency and responsiveness also depends a lot on driver quality.

For now a dedicated card like this is the only good option.

DP and whatever that new internal version is called need to catch on faster, then you can address the screen as if it were just another monitor as the port can be configured two-way.
