Im looking to buy new RAM to replace my current which , i find is a bit to slow.

While configuring my Sony VAIO, i got a notice that if i upgraded to 4GB, my OS could not utilise all of the 4GB completely. So im looking at 3GB RAM at a good speed

Here is my current RAM specifications taken from CPU-Z.

    TYPE: DDR2
    SIZE: 2048MB
    Channels#: Dual
    DC mode: Symmetric
    Frequency: 333mhz
    Max Bandwidth: PC2-5300

Im looking for a very good RAM but not too expensive to replace my 2 sticks. Will getting a better frequency RAM improve my speeds by a lot?

Can u guys suggest some RAM so i could look into them ? thanks!

PS: post Canadian stores only please cuz i live in Canada or any store or online retailer that can ship to CANADA

Judging by your current RAM configuration and video card, you most likely have an Intel 965 series chipset. Then you cannot upgrade to anything faster than PC2-5300 (667MHz). RAM speed (frequency) usually has very little impact on the performance, whatever speed problems you experience are not due to slow RAM, most likely due to background applications and RAM size.

I already told you in the previous thread you don't need faster RAM.

You need to learn when to reign things in.

If it's a Sony you probably just need a reinstallation of Windows. Unless you pay for their "Fresh Start" service, there is a ton of software on Sony PC's that slows them down.

My father's Vaio SZ is a good example, on first boot it had around 90 processes, that number should have been 70 tops. Ideally 60 or so.

    o_O

    60?

My current XP installation has 27 at boot and that's even with some extras running (AV, RivaTuner, Traffic Shaping, etc).

    Vista, not XP.

I have never had a Vista installation below 55 or so, it's usually in the 60's.

That might be the problem. You've tweaked things too much and possibly disabled parts of the OS that actually make things faster. Is your hard drive in PIO mode from your tweaking? Are any of your devices operating in compatibility modes? Those will affect your performance much more than RAM speed. New RAM will not change a thing as far as your computer is concerned. Benchmarks like 3DMark will turn out almost identically to how they're running now.

The number of processes means nothing. The amount of CPU and memory usage when idle is ALL that matters for performance.

I accually not only want faster RAM, but also more. I want my computer to process tasks at a greater speed.

With an extra 1GB of RAM i would be much happier
