Those peaks generated in your hdtune results, is due to the crapware and stupid programs which dell loads onto their computer systems. Whenever you buy a Dell, you have two choices, run Dell Decrapifier, or format the system with just the operating system, and install the programs you use. Guaranteed your system will be much faster.

Im not running Dell ware, I also told them to ship it untouched like it came from Samsung, they were going to install MediaDirect, I said Don't!.

They didn't offer Win XP or Vista64 when this was ordered, no dell software.

I disabled Avast scanner for HDtune nothing else was running. But I'll keep testing to see if I can get it to do a propper read.

That performance isn't a great improvement on the HM250JI. Perhaps the most significant aspect is the close to 60MB/s transfer rate for the first 40% of the drive. Normally the curve drops off a bit faster.

From the graphs between the two operating systems, one can clearly see how much windows vista hogs the harddrive. Clearly there is nothing wrong with the harddrive, as it is fine with XP. Vista sucks too much power, and quite frankly is just a crappy slow operating system, which is making ME look good.

    Ghola, stick with XP.

Ill check later when I get home, what are other HD benchies I should use on this drive?

So far from what I've tested against the 120GB WD Bevs, this one is kicking major arse.

Vista performance score is 5.4 for the HD.

Updated the Vista 64 test, disabled anything i could find(2-3 things that are a non issue) and set HD tune to realtime priority and retested.

Well this is by far the best laptop HD I've seen so far so I wouldn't worry about getting your monies worth, this thing is quite, fast, big and I can never go back to a 120GB again. Love it.

Im glad I had Dell problems.(they sent it to me for free)

Does the 320GB SAMSUNG also has the loud click/clunk every once in a while (30-45 mins) as the 250 GB does?

Just in case anybody is interested, I have an identical drive used as a USB external drive. Here's the benchmark and you can compare it with the internal drive benchmark the OP has posted.

    Not sure about the sensor.

And it does have the click, but I'm not worried.

I've just purchased this drive but the the average seems to be around the 45-48 mark :(, I'm running Vista 32-bit with Dell original Build but with a lot of useless bits removed or disabled, ran HDTune with Mcafee AV enabled.

Any pointer in getting more speed from my drive? Rebuild/stick XP on etc?

That is an amazing HD Tune for a 5400rpm drive.
I really hope that the new Hitachi 5K320 is a bit faster than the Samsung and Western Digital 320Gb notebook drives. As of now, the 320Gb drives are as fast as Hitachi's 7K200 drive, which is a pretty remarkable feat.

The only way to increase disk performance is to clean up the msconfig startup boot menu, so less programs run in the background.

I'd been thinking I'd made a big mistake and was gonna give this drive to my brother and buy the 200Gb 7k200 purely on speed basis.

Is there any other utility I can use to compare this to a 200gb 7k200 or do you reckon I'm wasting my time and just keep this?

    Anyone got a 200gb 7k200 HDTune taken from a T7500 M1530 ?

Here is a good chart which shows relative harddrive speeds: (your 320Gb 5400 is the same speed as the 7K200)
