    hi there,

just wondering about the effeciency of the Core Duo 2050 and 2060 with their 1MB cache in comparison to a Pentium M with 2MB cache

    Thanks

    the 2050 has 2mb cach, the 2060 has 1mb.

    I have an 2050, I upgraded from an celeron-m 1.6

the coreduo is just two pentium-m cores in one chip.

I am very happy with the performance of the 2050.

    regards.

    John.

I would go for the dual core CPU because it will feel much smoother in operation with two cores to share the workload.

I confirm that the T2050 has 2MB cache but the T2060 has only 1MB (and a new T2080 with 1MB has also popped up recently). Intel, intentionally or otherwise, got confused with their numbering.

The details of these CPUs (except the T2080) are in a file called proc_info_table.pdf. Intel have pulled the original from their web site but I have attached it to another forum thread (use Google to find it).

If by efficient you mean power consumption then the Pentium M is more efficient. Core Duo uses more power and is faster.

First my mistake I thought both Core Duo 2050 and 2060 have 1MB.

Now, If I understand well, the 2060 with its 1MB cash is faster than a Pentium M 760 with its 2MB cache, isn't is?

No. The Pentium 760 will actually be faster for most applications due to the substantially higher clock rate. However if you run multiple applications or applications that take advantage of duel cores, then the core duo may exceeed the 760 in performance. The 2050 does not run twice as fast because it has to cores, even under the most ideal circumstances.

By the same token, the core duo 2050 will proabably run more efficiently under most circumstances too. One of the primary features was the introduction of 65 nm technology that improved efficiency of the processors.

I would still buy a dual core over a pentium M any day. Single core processors are a thing of the past now.
