    hi i already know my CF-48`s cpu is upgradeable but to what point?
    it came with a 1.4Ghz pentium M 1mb cash 400mhz fsb.
    can i stick a 1.8 centrino in there with 2mb cash and 533mhz fsb ?
    i know that some cf-48`s are centrinos maybe its the same mobo as mine

    you could either have the 855 chipset or the 910/915 chipset. You should run CPU-Z to see which chipset you have. I'm guessing probably the 855 so upgrades are more limited as I"m pretty sure 855 doesn't support 533FSB natively unlike 910/915.

    you could use the centrino 1.86Ghz with the intel 855 but it wont run at full speed. It will run as 1.4 Ghz (i.e. 14x100mhz instead of 14x133mhz).
    The bigger cache will give a little boost in comparison with the 1.4ghz you have now.
    The advantage of running the 1.86 @ 1.4 is a cooler system in particular if you undervolt it using RMClock. I used and Pentium M 740 (1.7ghz) with an intel i855. Then I undervolted it. Result the system is so cool that the fun doesn't spin anymore

    The 1.7 with the 400mhz or 100mhz effective is a pentium M 735

    you could also try to get a faster one from ebay such as:
    Pentium M745 --> 1.80ghz
    Pentium M755 --> 2.00ghz
    Pentium M765 --> 2.10ghz

    yes because the 1.86 you have will work at 1.4ghz only

    Hello folks, I'm trying to upgrade the CPU on my toughbook CF48. It has a 1.4 Ghz Pentium M 400 Mhz bus with a 1GB L2 cache. I have a 1.5 GB Pentium M 400 Mhz bus with a 2 GB L2 cache to install, but I can't get the original CPU out. It has a small handle that lifts up, but when lifted, the CPU stays tough on the base and I just don't know how to remove it. I would like to get some info before I try the removal, so I don't damage anything. Will you help?

    Thanks for your response Naton, I need to remove the old CPU, how do I do that? The handle lifts, but the cpu does not move at all, it seems glued in there. I tried pushing the white base where the CPU mounts towards the handle, but it does not budge. Maybe I did not allpy enough pressure for the fear of damaging the MB.
