I am planning on buying either a Creative Audigy 2 ZS or a USB sound blaster live. I have heard reports that the usb sound blaster cannot actually produce 24 bit sound because USB 2.0 cannot send that much information at once.

So I looked into the Audigy 2 ZS (which is PCMCIA), but the specs for a PCMCIA slot on wikipedia state:
What the **** is Dword mode? Hopefully the ZS doesn't operate in 'byte mode' as that is slower than usb! Can anyone help me out? Which one is the better deal, given that the ZS is 49.99 and the usb is 29.99 (portability is not a factor).

The Audigy 2 ZS. It is way above the USB sound blaster, as it's the Full Audigy 2 ZS, not a stripped down version (like the x-fi expresscard).
