I am looking to purchase a lenovo t61 but one of the drawback is that their is no video out option besides through the VGA output. My HDTV that I will be hooking it up to sometimes to watch dvd's doesn't have a vga input. With my current laptop I have been using s-video but the t61 doesn't have this port.

My question is if I can buy anything for the pc card slot or express card slot that would give me video out? Something with component, dvi, hdmi, or even s-video.

you could get an express card docking station with dvi. also, you could also just get the regular docking station. i believe that has the ports your are looking for.

Ye...I knew about that. It seems like an expensive solution though.

the card slot solutions like say the matrox dualhead2go of the vtbook card are even more expensive. you could try a generic port replicator though. it will at least give you s-video.

I'm pretty set on getting a thinkpad....they're actually cheaper than the business notebooks of dell and HP.

what is a generic port replicator? I found the t series advanced mini docks on ebay for about $100 so that make it a little more affordable....but i don't believe that has s-video port on it. I guess I could use the DVI by buying a DVI to HDMI cable, but thats another added cost. All in all it's looking like it's gonna cost an extra $150 to get this thing hooked up to my hdtv.

Have you tried a VGA=> S-Video (or component or whatever) adapter cable? Seems like it would be the cheapest option but I have no idea what the image quality would be like when using one.
