    Hi,

I want to put a P9700 in my T400 thinkpad and was wandering if it would work considering that lenovo is not offering this processor yet - do they need to include this processor id in their Bios for it to work? I don't think they have done that if they don't offer the cpu yet...

    any sugestions?

    thanks,
    Cosmin

Ok, that's not realy helpful :) , I like this one just fine and want to keep it for 2-3 yrs so either P9700 or t9600 would be a worthwile upgrade for me - plus the price for those guys is not likely to go down any more, just look at some memron prices...

I think someone tried in the Lenovo forum and failed to get it to work due to lack of recognition. But really CPU upgrades aren't very useful unless you are currently maxing out your current CPU's load.

I just realized I shouldn't post this both here and in the IBM forum - if a moderator sees this please close the thread here and move the post to the IBM forum.

    thanks,

Have you tried calling Lenovo tech support?

Or are you still under warranty? :p

Hi Chris - no I didn't call them - yes still under waranty :) , but I also doubt I can get this type of info from them....regular tech support I mean.

anyway, I thought more about this and think it should work - they offer the t9900, that came out at the same time with the p9700, so probably the latest bios should include all of them - one would hope....

Call and ask if they plan to offer the P9700. If they do, then there should be a BIOS update that allows it to be installed.

I would go with a T9900. The TDP difference is only 7 Watts (28W vs. 35W). Plus you will get 3.06GHz.

If the laptop came with any other P serries cpu's the p9700 should work just fine its just a higher clock speed.
