I was wondering what are acceptable temperatures for your computer (cpu, gpu, etc) to run at if you want to overclock? ie are there any max temps that you never want to go above? Thanks in advance.

It depends on the computer and the components.

    dell 1520, core 2 duo 7500, 8600gt, 7200rpm hard drive

is it safe so overclock the 8600gt by a small margin to bring it close to ddr3 specs? it's only ddr2 in the 1520s. maybe i should post this in the dell forum...

Max on Turion CPU 203F C2D 212F (100C), before damage, these are not what you want to run at but thought it might help, you want to run as close to b/4 OC as possibible, things like coolers and undervolting help. The cooler the better always!

thanks i'll take that into consideration. I was thinking that i would make sure it didn't go above 80C max so hopefully that'll be ok.

I'd suggest something closer to 70. I suppose your laptop should run at around 55-60 usually?
    But thats for the CPU.

I dont suggest overclocking too much unless you use very CPU intensive APPs. Otherwise, for gaming, your GPU will definitely be the bottleneck.

I ran my cpu on full load until 80, but then I stopped because I didn't want to fry it but the specs are 100, could probably push to 85
