If you have a laptop that currently has a gsync display, would it be possible to enable optimus after swapping the screen with a display that does not support gsync? From my understanding, gsync is the only factor blocking Optimus from being utilized.

I imagine this isn't possible, or I'd find some more information on the internet... but I am curious as to why it doesn't work.

Is the option to enable Optimus present in the BIOS? It's hard to say if it is possible or not without further details. In G-Sync, I believe the Nvidia GPU is connected to the screen but in Optimus the Intel GPU is connected to the screen. If the laptop isn't specificially designed for it, it won't be possible.

Gsync, direct from dGPU, which is always on
    OR
Optimus with dGPU routed through iGPU with fixed refresh (no gsync), dGPU switched off for power savings when not used

Absolutely mutually exclusive on a hardware level.

Your model may be switchable between the two either in BIOS or key combo, requiring a reboot. Model dependent.
